Decoding the language of our microbiome

Researchers from the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California (UC) San Diego have discovered thousands of previously unknown bile acids, a type of molecule that our gut microbiome uses to communicate with the rest of the body. This discovery may contribute to a better understanding of our gut microbiome and lead to the development of therapies for gut microbiome diseases such as type 2 diabetes, bowel disorders, and others.
